Top 15 for 4-15-2013


1) ADF International began site work on their 100 acre location off Highway 87 in front of MaltEurop. The company plans to open the steel fabrication plant in October. ADF announced it has hired Dan Rooney of Great Falls as General Manager.
2) Drafted documents to create the Great Falls AgriTech Park Association that will own the Park's rail line.
3) Worked with EMTEQ on a potential major expansion of their growing Great Falls operation.
4) Began preparations for meeting with developers, commercial brokers and retailers at the national Recon show in May.
5) Won a Growth Through Agriculture grant from the Montana Department of Agriculture to help us exhibit at a major agri-processing trade show in July, the Institute of Food Technologists Expo.
6) The Economic Development Administration advanced a grant application to the final review to help expand Great Falls College MSU's welding program.
7) Worked on two new SBA 504 loan applications, one to help a local business expand and another to help a Montana business expand by building new office space in Great Falls.
8) Assisted a business to submit a contract to the State of Montana and two businesses to navigate the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) on contracts with a federal agency.
9) Presented the "1 Hour 2 Plan" training based on the book The 1 Hour Plan for Growth in Great Falls to a number of businesses from the region. Thank you to the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center and the Montana Department of Commerce for sponsoring the workshop. 10) Began scoring consultant responses to our website strategy and design RFQ. Our goal is to launch a fresh, content-rich, customer-focused website in the next 6 months that will enhance our business attraction efforts and our ability to better serve our prospects, clients, investors and partners.
11) Two of our legislative priorities were approved by the Montana Legislature and sent to the Governor. HB 513 exempts oversize loads from the Montana Environmental Policy Act in certain circumstances. SB 45 classifies new hydro electric generation capacity as renewable energy. The Governor sent SB 45 back to the Legislature with recommended amendments removing the retroactive section for Rainbow Dam, but otherwise supported the bill.
12) Participated on an International Economic Development Council webinar panel regarding economic development organization accreditation. GFDA remains the only economic development effort in the Rocky Mountain West to have earned accreditation.
13) Submitted a recertification application to the Community Development Financial Institution Fund, part of the US Department of Treasury.
14) The Montana Superhost program is offering a free customer service workshop for front line employees on Monday, April 29th, 3:30-6:30 PM at the Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. RSVP to Carol Lindseth of the Great Falls CVB at or 406-770-3078.
15) Great Falls needs more high-skilled workers. According to a national analysis conducted by Chmura Economics & Analytics, the Great Falls metro area (Cascade County) has a supply of high-skilled workers that is 6-13% lower than demand. To view a national map of the analysis, go to
